Wild Bunch will tackle 9/11 doc

Moore pushes hot project to distribs via videoconference

Michael Moore briefed 25 distributors about his upcoming “Fahrenheit 911” by videoconference Friday in a long distance face-to-face organized by Wild Bunch, which is handling international sales.

Moore told the distribbers the docu would cover the period before, during and after the World Trade Center attacks. Miramax is providing bridging finance for the politically sensitive project, following the recent withdrawal of Mel Gibson’s Icon.

But Miramax has not said it will distribute Stateside.

“All territories are still up for grabs,” Wild Bunch’s Brahim Chioua said Friday.

The videoconference went on some 45 minutes but the garrulous Moore gave few specifics about the project.

Still it is understood that Moore wants to target George W. Bush and his response to the 9/11 attacks.

This is Wild Bunch’s first Cannes as a true indie, the company and parent company StudioCanal having severed their ties last year.

In a line up comparable with those in previous years, Wild Bunch is handling four pics in competition: Andre Techine’s “Strayed,” Samira Makmalbaf’s “At Five in the Afternoon,” Lou Ye’s “Purple Butterfly” and Vincent Gallo’s “The Brown Bunny.” It also has another four films in Un Certain Regard, Critics’ Week and Directors Fortnight.
