WB, Pandora find homes for ‘World’

Farrell, Roberts, Penn, Spacek star in indie drama

NEW YORK — Warner Bros. Pictures has sealed a domestic distribution agreement and Pandora will handle international rights on “A Home at the End of the World.”

The adaptation of Pulitzer Prize-winner Michael Cunningham’s first novel stars Colin Farrell, Dallas Roberts, Robin Wright Penn and Sissy Spacek.

Indie drama is being produced by John Wells Prods., Killer Films, Hart Sharp Entertainment and Tom Hulce. Financing from Pandora and Hart Sharp’s True Film Fund was assembled by Cinetic Media.

The pickup marks the first Killer Films title to go through Warner since the Gotham indie stable established a first-look deal with the studio late last summer, set up by Wells, whose company bankrolls Killer’s overhead.

“Since we typically finance films prior to securing distribution, this deal represents a different risk profile than bringing a finished film to a festival in order to secure distribution,” said Hart Sharp chief operating officer Michael Hogan. “We see this as a proving ground for new production investment opportunities.”

“This partnering between Killer Films and Hart Sharp, along with Tom Hulce and John Wells Prods., represents yet another powerful example of the versatility of the New York independent film community in getting movies made,” added Hart Sharp partner Jeff Sharp.

A-list Broadway director Michael Mayer (“Thoroughly Modern Millie,” “Side Man”) makes his feature debut on “Home,” which started shooting earlier this month in Toronto.

Cunningham wrote the screenplay, marking the first stab for the author of “The Hours” at adapting his own work. Story spans the 1960s to the ’80s, from suburban Cleveland to New York, chronicling the evolution of a complicated relationship triangle.
