Travolta has ears for ‘Harvey’

Actor in talks for Dowd role in remake

John Travolta is negotiating to star in “Harvey,” a new screen version of the Pulitzer Prize winning play that was the basis for the 1950 Jimmy Stewart film.

The remake is a co-production between Dimension Films and MGM. Craig Mazin wrote the script. Even though a director hasn’t yet been set, the studios have begun talks with Travolta to play the role of Elwood P. Dowd, an amiable drunk who pals around with a six-foot-tall invisible rabbit named Harvey. Stewart was Oscar-nominated for his portrayal in the adaptation of Mary Chase’s play.

The WMA-repped Travolta will next star in the John McTiernan-directed Intermedia drama “Basic,” alongside his “Pulp Fiction” co-star Samuel L. Jackson.
