Toronto gala bow for ‘In the Cut’

'Matchstick,' 'Code 46' also to unspool

TORONTO — Organizers have added three galas to the lineup of the 28th Toronto Intl. Film Festival, including the world preem of Jane Campion’s psychological thriller “In the Cut.”

Pic stars Meg Ryan as an English professor who becomes involved with a homicide detective investigating murders in her Gotham neighborhood.

A Pathe Intl. production, “In the Cut” is produced by Laurie Parker and Nicole Kidman and exec produced by Effie T. Brown and Francois Ivernel. North American distributor is Sony’s Screen Gems.

Ridley Scott returns to the festival with the North American premiere of “Matchstick Men,” a Nicolas Cage starrer based on Eric Garcia’s novel of the same name. Cage plays an agoraphobic, obsessive-compulsive conman whose teenage daughter turns up unexpectedly. Pic is distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures.

Michael Winterbottom’s “Code 46” also will have its North American bow at the fest. The Tim Robbins/Samantha Morton starrer is a love story set in the near future. “Code 46” is a Revolution Films production distributed by United Artists.

Fest runs Sept. 4-13.
