ShowEast to salute U sales execs

Minds behind distrib'n of 'Jurassic,' 'Mummy' pix feted

U exec VP-general sales managers for pic distribution Nick Carpou and Mark Gaines will be saluted at the 19th annual ShowEast convention, to kick off Sept. 29. The pair will receive the 2003 Show “E” Award at the closing banquet and gala Oct. 2, to be held at Orlando, Fla.’s World Center Marriott.

The Show “E” Award is presented annually to recognize individuals for their achievements and outstanding dedication and commitment to the betterment of the film industry.

Mitch Neuhauser, co-managing director of ShowEast, called industry veterans Carpou and Gaines) a fantastic team with an the ongoing list of successful releases to their credit.

Box office champs

The two, working in tandem since 1997, have been a part of distrib campaigns for many of U’s B.O. toppers, 10 of which are included in the 100 top-grossing films of all time: “Jurassic Park,” “The Lost World: Jurassic Park,” “Jurassic Park III,” “The Mummy,” “The Mummy Returns,” “Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” “Liar Liar,” “Apollo 13,” “A Beautiful Mind” and “Meet the Parents.”

Carpou and Gaines report to U distribution prexy Nikki Rocco; they oversee all domestic sales in the Eastern and Western U.S., respectively, with Carpou also handling Canada.

Last year’s Show “E” Award recipient was Buena Vista Pictures Distribution prexy Chuck Viane, and the 2001 award feted Miramax distrib chairman Rick Sands and the mini-major’s L.A. prexy, Mark Gill.
