Scout Wins Boxing Tale

Brothers' tale latest project for producers of 'Queer'

Scout Prods. and Edgartown Ventures have acquired the life rights of boxer “Irish” Micky Ward and his brother, trainer Dick Eklund, with Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson set to write the screenplay for a planned feature.

Edgartown principals Keith Dorrington and Leslie Varrelman will exec produce and Scout Prods. principal Dorothy Aufiero will produce. A-list talent is circling the project, which chronicles the brothers’ struggle from the rough, impoverished streets of Lowell, Mass., to Ward’s world championship bout.

Scout is finding success in a variety of media; its “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” has been bringing in record ratings for cabler Bravo. Past feature credits include “Session 9.” Tamasy and Johnson recently sold the spec “Toad Trip” to DreamWorks and thriller “The Dark” to Constantine.
