Jon Fitzgerald has resigned as executive director of the Santa Barbara Intl. Film Festival to focus on production commitments and his family, both of which are based in Los Angeles.
Fitzgerald held the post for a year and supervised the 18th annual SBIFF, which ran Feb. 29-March 9. He will continue as a consultant until the search committee finds a new director.
In his brief term, he returned the event to a 10-day run after budget problems reduced it to five days in 2002. With Fitzgerald’s introduction of new sponsors, the 2003 event ended in the black.
Fitzgerald spent three years as festival director of the AFI Los Angeles Film Festival and a year as VP programming for IFILM.
Fitzgerald’s shingle, Marine Street Films, is developing “Criminal Procedure” with Tom Pollock and Ivan Reitman’s Montecito Picture Co.
Next year’s SBIFF will run Feb. 13-22.
