COPENHAGEN — Pan-Scandinavian distributor Sandrew Metronome and German arthouse distrib Prokino Filmverleih have snapped up French-Canadian helmer Denys Arcand’s “Les Invasions Barbares.”
Pic won actress (Marie-Josee Croze) and screenplay (Arcand) honors at the Cannes Film Festival, which wrapped Sunday.
Managing director Frida Ohrvik, of Sandrew Metronome Norway, with Stine Helgeland and Eivor Zimmermann, also purchased U.K.-set crossover pic “Bend it Like Beckham” and director Gurinder Chadha’s Bollywood adaptation of Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice”, with Cannes jury member Aishwarya Rai in the leading role.
Stockholm-based, Sandrew Metronome also holds Scandinavian rights to the fully-animated “Belleville Rendez-Vous” that was screened in the official Cannes programme out of competition. Through its output deal with Warner Bros, it will distribute Clint Eastwood’s Golden Palm contender, “Mystic River.”
“The Barbarian Invasions” was the only pic acquired by Ira von Gienanth, Prokino’s head of acquistions, at Cannes this year.
The Munich-based distrib is releasing Berlinale Fipresci Award winner “Distant Lights” from Hans-Christian Schmid in July.
