Fortissimo Film Sales reports that buyers are lining up for Andrew Jarecki’s docu feature “Capturing the Friedmans,” with early pre-emptive buys sealed on the opening day of the Cannes market with Hamish McAlpine’s Metro Tartan for the U.K. and San Fu Malta’s A-Films for Benelux.
“The buzz on this film is rapidly gaining momentum,” says Fortissimo co-chairman Michael J. Werner. “Jarecki has delivered an outstanding debut which will undoubtedly make an indelible impact on worldwide audiences and the industry alike.”
Winner of the Grand Jury Prize in the documentary competition at Sundance earlier this year, the film is a portrait of a dysfunctional Long Island family embroiled in a decadelong sex crime scandal.
“Even within the current state of great documentaries, this film stands head and shoulders above the rest of them,” McAlpine says. “Metro Tartan is proud to have been chosen by Andrew Jarecki, John Sloss and Fortissimo to be their U.K. distributor of choice,”
Two out-of-market private screenings have been scheduled for “Friedmans,” with tickets available from the Fortissimo office.
