HOLLYWOOD — Paul Rudd and Christina Applegate will co-star in DreamWorks’ Will Ferrell vehicle “Anchorman.” Production will begin July 7 in Los Angeles under the direction of Adam McKay.
Written by Ferrell with former “Saturday Night Live” head writer McKay, pic is set in the 1970s. Ferrell portrays a pompous anchor who is paired with an ambitious female colleague. Unlike him, however, she’s attractive and a talented journalist.
DreamWorks bought “Anchor Man” in March under the title “Action News.” Judd Apatow is producing pic, with David O. Russell and Shauna Weinberg exec producing.
Rudd was most recently seen in Focus Features’ “The Shape of Things.” Applegate is shooting “Employee of the Month” for Bull’s Eye Entertainment and will next be seen in Lions Gate Films’ “Wonderland,” set for release Sept. 26.
