Ridley will helm Lions Gate ‘Down’

Pic planned as 'intelligent commercial thriller'

Writer-director John Ridley, who co-wrote “Three Kings” and penned “Undercover Brother,” will direct the thriller “Let Me Take You Down” for Lions Gate Films.

Ridley will also produce pic under his newly formed company Intl. Famous Players Radio Picture Corp. with Michael Jenkinson of Urban Entertainment. Marit Weisenberg of Ridley’s Radio Pictures will serve as co-producer, with Lions Gate’s exec VP Marc Butan overseeing pic for the company.

“Down,” is a chilling murder suspense thriller about a young “bagger” for the L.A. coroner’s office who finds striking similarities between the murder of a young woman and the notorious 1947 Black Dahlia case. When he can’t get the police to reopen the case, he enlists the help of a prostitute. His obsession with the case endangers his life and those around him.

Butan said, “John Ridley’s vision for the film is extraordinary, and we are thrilled to be working with him on what is shaping up to be one of the more talked about, intelligent commercial thrillers in some time.”

Added Ridley, “This project is a passion of mine, and finding a joint that digs atypical material isn’t easy. I found one in Lions Gate. They’ve got a great rep and I’m looking forward to working with them.”
