Revolution, Bay launch space shot

'Bad Boys' helmer to work with Roth, Garner on project

Michael Bay is developing “Do Not Go Gentle,” a Revolution Studios drama about a scientist from the Smithsonian who fulfills a lifelong dream to travel in space.

The project brings Bay back into orbit with Revolution principals Joe Roth and Todd Garner, who steered production at Disney when Bay made the space-based hit “Armageddon,” as well as “Pearl Harbor.”

Bay is coming off directing “Bad Boys 2,” and his Platinum Dunes producing venture is gaining good buzz for a low-budget remake of “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.” Though Bay’s trademark has been high decibel-action, “Do Not Go Gentle” is described as an adventure film with a gentler tone.

Bay has not yet chosen his next directing vehicle and it was unclear how quickly “Do Not Go Gentle” would be ready for liftoff. Revolution has set Neil Tolkin (“The Emperor’s Club”) to do a rewrite of the script.
