Power Up honors three screenwriters

Org supports gay women in entertainment

Nonprofit organization Power Up announced the winners of its 2003 filmmaking grant on Thursday in Los Angeles.

Winners in the screenplay category are Kelly Atkins for “The Nearly Unadventurous Life of Zoe Cadwaulder,” Cherien Dabis for “Little Black Boot” and Ryan Langdon for “First Date.”

The directing category winners include Colette Burson (“Coming Soon”), Buboo Kakati (“Off Duty”) and Maryann Marino (“Platform Six”).

The three winning screenplay entries will be helmed by grant winning directorial candidates, with financing and production by Power Up.

The grant films will preem at the annual Power Premiere Gala fundraiser, with subsequent submission to the various film fests.

Power Up acts in supporting gay women in entertainment through grants, classes, workshops and internships.
