Louis Mellis and David Scinto, the pair who penned Fox Searchlight’s critical darling “Sexy Beast” in 2000, are adapting Buddy Giovinazzo’s novel “Potsdamer Platz” for Fox Searchlight Pictures.
Director Tony Scott is expected to be part of the team developing the novel as part of his Scott Free Prods. deal with Fox.
The novel follows an American hitman, world-weary from a life of killing for the mob, who repairs to Berlin. There, he again puts his lethal skills to good use protecting a Turkish real estate developer who is besieged by criminal elements from Russian and Eastern European crime families during an enormous construction project.
Scott, repped in the deal by CAA, recently began lensing “Man on Fire,” also at Fox, with Denzel Washington toplining a script by Brian Helgeland. Searchlight exec VP Claudia Lewis is overseeing the pic, which will be produced by Scott and Catalaine Knell (“Butter”).
