New Regency is negotiating with Naomi Watts to star alongside Ewan McGregor in the Marc Forster-directed drama “Stay.”
McGregor will play a therapist at an Ivy League school who tries to prevent one of his students from committing suicide. Watts plays a teacher who is the therapist’s love interest.
“Stay,” which has “Sixth Sense”-like supernatural overtones, was scripted by David Benioff (“Troy”) in a memorable spec deal that earned the scribe $1.8 million.
It got a commitment from Forster, who’d been offered numerous films since helming “Monster’s Ball.” Tom Lassally is producing, with Eric Kopeloff and Guymon Casady exec producing. Regency’s Sanford Panitch and Kara Francis are overseeing production.
Watts will next be seen in “Le Divorce.” and just wrapped “21 Grams” opposite Penn and Benicio Del Toro. She also just toplined “Anymore” with Mark Ruffalo.
