New Line Cinema has acquired U.S. rights to the Senator Intl. production “Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle” in a negative pickup.
Directed by Danny Leiner (“Dude, Where’s My Car?”), the pic follows two overachieving kids from immigrant families who break away from their parents’ high expectations for one very eventful night.
John Cho (the “American Pie” franchise) and Kal Penn (“Malibu’s Most Wanted”) star in the film, which begins production in Toronto May 12.
” ‘Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle’ is one of the funniest scripts I’ve read in a long time,” New Line production prexy Toby Emmerich told Daily Variety. “It’s the ultimate stoner comedy, much like the first ‘Friday.’ We’re happy to be in partnership with Senator on the project.”
Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg (“Max Keeble’s Big Move”) wrote the script.
Greg Shapiro (“The Rules of Attraction”) produces the film with Nathan Kahane, Senator’s exec VP, motion pictures. Senator’s Carsten Lorenz is executive producer.
Senator Intl. creative exec Jim Miller will oversee production with New Line production VP David Brewington and creative exec Luke Ryan.
