MTV Movie Awards taps ‘Towers’

Kudofest features perfs from 50 Cent, Pink, Tatu

See winners“The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers” was the top winner at the 2003 MTV Movie Awards, nabbing four tubs of the coveted gold popcorn with awards for action sequence, onscreen team, virtual performance (Gollum) and movie.

Kudofest, held Saturday night at the Shrine Auditorium, was co-hosted by Seann William Scott and Justin Timberlake.

Actors relished the chance to relive their most famous dialogue. Harrison Ford said, “Get off my plane!” from “Air Force One,” Keanu Reeves uttered the infamous “Whoah” a la “Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure,” and a pint-sized Daveigh Chase, from “The Ring,” added a chilling “Everyone will suffer” to the end of her speech after winning best villain.

Femme pop duo Tatu was a big hit with a performance that included a dancing troup garbed in Catholic school girl uniforms. At the end of the song, the dancers stripped down to their skivvies, showering the audience with their blouses and skirts.

High-wattage performances included hip-hop artist 50 Cent, Pink, a taped acceptance speech from breakthrough and best male perf winner Eminem for “8 Mile.” Sharon Osborne and Posh Spice and husband David Beckham made guest cameos.

Kirsten Dunst was tapped for female performance for “Spider-Man.” She and co-star Tobey Maguire also wrangled best kiss for the big, wet one they shared.

    Film Review: 'The Quake'

Roar Uthaug’s 2015 “The Wave” revived the pleasures of the 1970s disaster-movie cycle in a form that seemed purer than the never-quite-dead genre’s recent Stateside incarnations — most of which seem to involve Dwayne Johnson in a generic pileup of CGI perils. “The Wave” wasn’t high art, but it was entertainment that delivered some standard [...]
