RIO DE JANEIRO — MGM/United Artists has inked with local distrib-exhib Filmes do Estacao for theatrical distribution of indie and art fare.
Agreement covers four pics, but MGM/UA and Estacao are negotiating for another four, said Estacao general director Ilda Santiago.
First pic under the deal is Michael Winterbottom’s “24 Hour Party People,” which will bow Friday. The others are Rebecca Miller’s “Personal Velocity,” Burr Steers’ “Igby Goes Down” and Mike Leigh’s “All or Nothing.”
All screened at the 2002 Rio Film Festival, which Estacao co-organizes.
Before this deal, Fox Brazil had the distrib rights to MGM/UA pics. Fox will continue to distribute blockbuster and commercial pics, including the James Bond films. Fox also retains the DVD and video distrib rights to films that will be distributed by Estacao.
