London festival moves up date

Organizers avoid Mifed clash, sign Times as sponsor

This year’s London Film Festival has moved a few days earlier than originally announced; the new dates are Oct. 22-Nov. 6, in order to avoid a clash with the Mifed film market.

The fest has also signed up a new title sponsor — the London Times newspaper — for the next three years.

Previously the London event has started in the middle of Mifed, causing scheduling difficulties for the fest, which often shares prints with the Milan market.

The move to before Mifed — which this year starts Nov. 9 — creates the intriguing possibility that London could once again become a stop-off point for international execs on their way to Milan, just one year after the leading film sales companies banded together to kill off the London Screenings.
