“Bad Boys II” star Martin Lawrence is getting ready to trade in his police badge for a whistle, agreeing to star as a coach in DreamWorks’ family comedy “Rage Control.”
Lawrence will play a Bobby Knight-style college basketball coach who is forced to lead a junior high school team after having a public meltdown during a game.
“The Santa Clause 2” scribes John J. Strauss and Ed Decter penned the pic, which is still seeking a director. Project, whose title is expected to change, is being readied for a January start date. Robert Simonds, now producing the Steve Martin laffer “Cheaper by the Dozen” at Fox, will produce the DreamWorks comedy. Tracy Trench is exec producing.
DreamWorks exec Adam Goodman is overseeing the project at the studio.
Lawrence, repped by UTA, is expected to make “Rage Control” his next pic after “Bad Boys II.”
