Rachel Weisz has inked to star opposite Emma Roberts in the indie pic “Daisy Winters,” which starts shooting next week in Vancouver.
Written and to be directed by Beth LaMure, project is the story of a 12-year-old girl (Roberts) and her emotional struggle with her mother’s losing battle with cancer. Weisz would play the girl’s mother.
After her death, the girl fears she will have to live with her terrible aunt, placing her in a race against time to find an alternative plan. Along the way she uncovers the father she never knew.
John Wells and helmer Peyton Reed (“Down With Love”) are producing the pic, with Laura Holstein, Huntley Ritter, Karin Levinson and David Goddard exec producing.
LaMure makes her feature directorial debut on the pic, which also marks her second screenplay. She previously exec produced and produced musicvideos for a number of artists including the Offspring, Cyndi Lauper, Counting Crows and Ben Folds. She also used to work in feature development at Lucas Arts.
Weisz, repped by CAA, the Firm and her London agent Jane Brand, most recently starred in pics “Confidence,” “The Shape of Things” and “About a Boy.” Upcoming pics are “Marlowe,” “The Runaway Jury” and “Envy.”
