“2 Fast 2 Furious” star Tyrese is speeding to another pic with Universal and producer Neal Moritz. He’s made a deal to next star in “Extortion,” a drama based on an idea by the singer-turned-actor. Filming is expected to begin later this year.
Scripted by John Jarrell (“Romeo Must Die”), “Extortion” is an urban crime thriller set in Los Angeles. Tyrese will play a street-tough detective who risks blowing his cover when he investigates his foster brother’s murder. In order to get close enough to solve the crime, the cop must infiltrate a gang and become a confidante of a crime lord.
Deal was made by U co-prexys Mary Parent and Scott Stuber, who with Moritz sparked to the job Tyrese did as an ex-con street racer opposite Paul Walker after Vin Diesel ankled the sequel. “2 Fast 2 Furious” is only his second feature starring role, after he made his debut in “Baby Boy.” That pic was directed by John Singleton, who helmed “2 Fast 2 Furious.”
