As Warner Bros. prepares to open the Jamie Kennedy pic “Malibu’s Most Wanted,” the studio has made a deal to turn the Greg Glienna and Pete Schwaba script “Dreamgirl” into another vehicle for the thesp, who stars in the WB series “The Jamie Kennedy Experiment.”
Studio spent mid-six against high six figures for the script, which had been under option to Josh and Brian Etting, the latter of whom writes on Kennedy’s show. That duo will produce with Mike Karz, co-creator of the TV show and producer of “Malibu’s Most Wanted.”
The comedy’s best described as “Notting Hill,” if Julia Roberts had developed a fatal attraction for Hugh Grant. In this twisted version, nobody will believe this night manager is being stalked by a huge star he hooks up with for a one-nighter while she passes through town. The scribes were repped by WMA and Concept.
Kennedy’s also being courted for “The Mask 2,” and his participation depends on whether its schedule can co-exist with the start of his show’s third season. “Dreamgirl” will get a quick rewrite from Fax Bahr and Adam Small, who did the same thing on “Malibu’s Most Wanted.” Greg Silverman and Jeff Robinov will supervise for WB.
