Rather than kid around, Columbia has picked up spec script “Grown Ups,” to be produced by Ricky Strauss and his Ricochet production company, which is based on the Sony lot.
Project from the writing team of Ian Deitchman and Kristin Rusk Robinson is only the latest to get parked at a studio. Pair already have “Wildest Dreams” at MGM, with Sandra Bullock to star and produce; “Life as We Know It” at Fox 2000, with Barry Josephson to produce; and “The Wedding Incident” at Universal.
Script follows the overly protective parents of a 13-year-old who awake to find themselves turned into 13-year-olds as well. They enroll at their son’s school in attempt to become his constant companions, but the pressure to conform in junior high school causes their plan to backfire, leading to changes in the couple as parents and spouses.
Col senior VP of production Andrea Giannetti will oversee the project for the studio. Strauss and his VP of development Lisa Ullmann will oversee it for Ricochet. Ricochet already has “Viva Lefty,” by Barry Stringfellow; “Frasier” writer Saladin Patterson’s untitled comedy; and a remake of British thriller “The Swap” in development for Col, along with “Guilty Pleasure” for New Line.
