ROME — Hyping the Lido’s importance to industryites, Venice Intl. Film fest director Moritz de Hadeln is pushing for 25 commercial stands at the Excelsior Hotel and intends to screen out-of-competition pics at the Astra Cinema.
“We want the Lido to become an indispensable market to the industry,” de Hadeln told Italian daily Corriere della Sera.
Prominent titles to show on the Lido this year are likely to include Woody Allen’s “Anything Else,” Rob Reiner’s “Alex and Emma,” “Matchstick Man” by Ridley Scott and a Robert Altman musical about ballet dancers, “The Company.”
Italo films at this year’s festival will include “The Dreamers” helmed by Bernardo Bertolucci, Marco Bellocchio’s “Buongiorno Notte” and Paolo Virzi’s “Caterina va in Citta.”
Festival faves James Ivory, Amos Gitai, Theo Angelopoulos and Emir Kusturica are already solid on the 60th festival roster, running Aug. 27 to Sept. 6 .
