Hip-hop impresario Damon Dash has come aboard to exec produce drama feature “The Woodsman,” starring Kevin Bacon, Kyra Sedgwick and Eve.
In addition, rapper-actor Mos Def (“The Italian Job”) has joined the cast, which includes Benjamin Bratt, David Alan Grier and newcomer Michael Shannon.
Lee Daniels is producing the pic, his follow-up to “Monster’s Ball.” Brook Lenfest is the other exec producer on the project.
Lensing is under way in Philadelphia under the direction of frosh helmer Nicole Kassell, who adapted the script for the screen from a play by Steven Fechter.
Story concerns a convicted sex offender (Bacon) who has just been released from prison and is trying to build a new life.
Pic is the first project to take shape through Dash’s new shingle, Dash Films.
Dash, who produced and directed the mockumentary “Death of a Dynasty,” which preemed at the Tribeca Film Festival, will next produce Abel Ferrara’s prequel to “King of New York,” slated to begin production in the fall.
