Nigel Cole has come aboard to helm “Lover’s Leap,” a comedy being rewritten by Ron Bass at Fox-based New Regency.

Cole, best known for helming Fine Line Features’ Brenda Blethyn starrer “Saving Grace,” most recently wrapped the Tim Firth/Juliette Towhidi-penned comedy “Calendar Girls” for Disney’s Touchstone Pictures.

In “Leap” a butler with an enigmatic past makes contact with a young woman to give her the “once-over” for his wealthy employer, to whom he is more like an adviser than a servant. The butler develops a friendship with the woman and begins to fall in love with her.

Pic is being produced by Pierce Brosnan and Beau St. Clair’s MGM-based Irish Dreamtime shingle, scribe Bass and Amy Lanier. Casting is expected to begin shortly, according to a Regency spokesman.
