Col wins ‘Girl’ for pic option

Book tells of a girl coping with her parents' death

Columbia Pictures has optioned the feature rights to Leslie Marshall’s debut novel “A Girl Could Stand Up” for producer Laura Ziskin.

Published this month by Grove/Atlantic, the coming-of-age story begins when a young girl loses her parents in a freak accident at an amusement park. Surrogate parents come in the form of two uncles — one a macho photographer, the other a crossdresser.

Col senior VP Andrea Gianetti will oversee the project’s development.

Marshall is a contributing editor for InStyle.
