Coast kudo for Jackson

'LOTR' helmer to receive top award

“The Lord of the Rings” head man Peter Jackson will receive this year’s Modern Master Award at the Santa Barbara Film Festival.

Award, the most distinguished honor presented to filmmakers at the fest, is bestowed upon individuals who make significant contributions to American culture “through his or her accomplishments in the movie industry.”

Helmer Jackson, who also co-wrote and produced the “Rings” trilogy, will accept the award at a ceremony skedded for Jan. 31 at the Arlington Theater.

The Modern Master Award was created in 1995 and has since been presented to Jodie Foster, Sean Penn, Jeff Bridges, Diane Keaton and Anthony Hopkins.
