San Rafael-based exhib Century Theaters announced the promotion of chief operating officer David Shesgreen to president Wednesday, with chief exec Raymond Syufy taking on the additional title of chairman while his brother and previous prexy Joseph Syufy is elevated to vice chairman and chief exec.
Also, corporate development and construction head Victor Castillo was upped to chief development officer and senior VP. Castillo will add oversight of Century’s purchasing department to his responsibilities.
A 27-year Century vet, Shesgreen previously worked for Pacific Theaters before starting at Century as a film buyer. He was named head film buyer in 1980, then was appointed exec VP programming and corporate development in 1996 and chief operating officer in 1998.
“David has been responsible for tremendous insight and leadership over the years,” Joseph Syufy said.
“As chairman and CEO, I will continue to share the responsibilities of running Century Theaters and CineArts with my partner Joseph Syufy,” Raymond Syufy said. “We are continuing to expand and grow, bringing new state-of-the-art theaters to our patrons.”
Century operates more than 900 screens in 11 states, including several CineArts arthouses.
