“Sylvia” screenwriter John Brownlow has come aboard to pen a rewrite on “The Sailmaker,” the epic adventure tale to be helmed by “Con Air” director Simon West.
Pic, which was officially unveiled here Wednesday, has secured production coin through Hong Kong based NatWest Financial Group for pic and partial development money through E3 Entertainment and Carl F Pauwels, president of NatWest Financial Group will exec produce.
Arama Entertainment’s Shimon Arama will produce pic with West and West’s producing and development partner Jib Polhemus, with E3’s Don Schneider and Larry Weinberg exec producing.
Pic, which was originally penned by Barry Schneider and Ron Montana, is a 19th century tale of a sea voyage in which a sailmaker must come to the rescue after a Spanish sea captain sinks into despair and alcoholism after the death of his wife.
Arama is selling worldwide rights to pic at Cannes.
“Sailmaker” is expected to start shooting next summer in Australia, Malta and other locations.
West is next directing the high-octane “RPM” for Sony. John Baldecchi is producing with producer-scribe Joel Wyman.
His other credits include “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” and the Paramount-produced TV project ‘Keen Eddie,” for Fox TV.
