HOLLYWOOD — Details for the first Bangkok Film Market to be held in conjunction with the Bangkok Intl. Film Festival have been announced by fest exec director Craig Prater. The market will focus on Southeast Asian films and locations.

Prater, formerly executive director of the Palm Springs Intl. Film Festival, joined the Bangkok fest in July with programming director Jennifer Stark, also a Palm Springs fest vet.

The market will take place Jan. 27, 28 and 29 while the fest runs Jan. 22 to Feb. 2. “People are starting to pay attention to Southeast Asian films,” says Prater.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand will cover attendance costs for sales agents and buyers, with approximately 200 people expected. “They’re doing it right,” Prater says .

Mart is based at Bangkok’s lavish Shangri-La hotel, which will also serve as fest headquarters, with screenings held in exhibitor suites. PriceWaterhouse will sponsor a finance seminar in conjunction with the market.

“There are new film fests starting every day,” says Prater. “The difference can lie in having a film market available to support the filmmaker and secure financing and distribution.”
