Madonna pic walks ‘Away’ with 5 Razzies

Star ties with Spears for Worst Actress Award

Once again the Golden Raspberry Awards Foundation doled out “Razzie” awards to their picks for the worst films Hollywood had to offer in 2002.

In an unprecedented feat, two singer-turned-thesps tied for Worst Actress at this year’s ceremony. “Swept Away’s” Madonna and “Crossroads'” Britney Spears shared the (dis) honor. Madonna was also singled out for her supporting role in the James Bond pic “Die Another Day.”

“Swept Away” also nabbed Worst Picture, Worst Director (Madonna’s hubby Guy Rit-chie), Worst Screen Couple (The Material Girl and Adriano Giannini) and Worst Re-make. The pic’s five awards ties it with “Freddy Got Fingered,” “Mommie Dearest,” “The Postman” and “Wild, Wild West” as the recipient of the most Razzie Awards.

Italo thesp Roberto Benigni discovered that life isn’t always so beautiful when he was awarded a Razzie in Worst Actor category for his perf in “Pinocchio.”

Mega-hit “Star Wars: Episode II — Attack of the Clones” felt the force of two Razzie Awards, for Worst Supporting Actor (Hayden Christensen) and Worst Screenplay (George Lucas and Jonathan Hales). The Golden Raspberry Awards referred to the pic as “Star Wars: Yada-Yada-Yoda.”

A new category, Worst Flatulent Teen-targeted Comedy, allowed “Jackass the Movie” to take home a prize.

The 23rd annual ceremonies were held on March 22 (one day before Oscars) at the Sheraton Hotel in Santa Monica.

As usual, none of the honorees were in attendance to collect their trophies.
