‘Far’ wins Golden Satellite kudos

'Gangs,' 'Frida,' 'Talk' also take multiple nods

See winnersHOLLYWOOD — Todd Haynes’ “Far From Heaven” took top honors at the Intl. Press Academy’s seventh annual Golden Satellite Awards.

“Heaven” raked in kudos for best picture, best director and supporting actor (Dennis Haysbert), while “Gangs of New York” nabbed nods for best actor (Daniel Day-Lewis, who tied with Michael Caine for “The Quiet American” in the drama category), film editing and art direction. Diane Lane picked up best actress for her perf in Adrian Lyne’s “Unfaithful.”

“Frida” and “Talk to Her” also received two awards apiece.

“My Big Fat Greek Wedding” won the prize for best comedy or musical. Also in the field of comedy, 20-year-old Kieran Culkin took home acting honors for “Igby Goes Down,” and newcomer Jennifer Westfeldt won for “Kissing Jessica Stein.”

On the TV front, winners were CBS drama “CSI” for best television series and critical favorite “The Bernie Mac Show” for best comedy series.

Writer-producer Robert Evans picked up the Mary Pickford special achievement award for “outstanding artistic contribution to the entertainment industry.”
