Synacor — which puts together bundles of premium online content and related customer sign-up software for Internet service providers — has launched with offerings from Disney, Fox Sports, CinemaNow and Experian Consumer Direct.
The company functions like the online equivalent of a TV programming syndicator. In this case, though, Synacor provides wholesale services to cable, phone and Internet companies that sell high-speed and dial-up connections to the Net. Synacor bundles packages of subscription-only content that the Internet providers in turn sell to customers as add-ons to their basic service package. Synacor software allows a subscriber to gain access to multiple services through one screen name and one bill.
Among the subscription services Synacor will bundle for providers are ABCNews.com; the Disney Blast collection of kid-oriented programming; sports content from Fox and ESPN; video-on-demand movies from CinemaNow; and credit reports and related material from Experian.
Synacor also announced deals to provide its services to cable-system operator Susquehanna Communications and Net service provider FairPoint Communications. Susquehanna will launch the service this month, FairPoint in early April.
