‘Star Wars’ site hyperspeeds to subscription

Webcasts, coverage of Episode III part of pay section

LucasArts will turn part of it its official “Star Wars” Web site into a for-pay operation beginning next week, part of a revamp of the site just as shooting begins on the latest sequel in the sci-fi saga.

StarWars.com will continue to offer some free content, but the StarWars.com Hyperspace subscription service will provide more in-depth and extensive coverage, such as daily Webcasts from filming of the franchise’s Episode III in various sites around the world, chats with cast members and access to outtakes.

Hyperspace debuts Thursday in a five-day free preview before the for-pay operation launches June 10. Service will cost $19.95 a year. Site gets more than 4 million visitors monthly.
