Lollapalooza will feature a new kind of playing this year, following an agreement with Games Media Properties to create a central vidgame pavilion at the revived summer music tour.
The GameRiot pavilion will feature titles from publishers Vivendi Universal Games, Sega, Ubi Soft, Microsoft, Namco and Activision, with a PC games area sponsored by graphics-card maker Nvidia. Lollapalooza attendees will be able to both play the games and compete in tournaments against each other, with finals of tournaments to played out on the Lollapalooza main stage.
Execs billed the pavilion as an efficient way to reach a huge audience of young vidgame fans. The tour begins July 3 and runs through the end of August, hitting 30 U.S. cities. The tour will feature founder Perry Farrell’s re-formed band, Jane’s Addiction, along with Audioslave, Jurassic 5, A Perfect Circle, Incubus and Queens of the Stone Age, among others.
