Cabler G4’s “G-Phoria” vidgame showcase and awards show will be held July 30 at the Henry Fonda Theater in Hollywood.Event will be taped for showing as a 90-minute special Aug. 8 on G4, a year-old digital channel owned by Comcast and focused on vidgame-related programming. “G-Phoria” will spotlight a group of much-anticipated, as-yet-unseen vidgames from big publishers such as THQ, Electronic Arts, Square Enix, Capcom, Konami, Ubi Soft and VU Games’ Blizzard Entertainment.
It also will feature the channel’s first Glow Awards, honoring various game achievements, and performances by several musical acts.
Show is the first of several new televised events hitting the airwaves this year as cable outlets beef up their coverage of the fast-growing vidgame industry to reach the core gamer aud of young adult males. Among the channels with beefed-up game coverage in recent months are CNN, ESPN, Tech TV, TNN and, most recently, the Game Show Network.
