Artisan to craft pix from horror vidgames

Sega, Infogrames see games go to big screen

Artisan Pictures has picked up North American distribution rights to horror pics “House of the Dead” and “Alone in the Dark.”

“Dead,” produced by Boll KG Entertainment and Mindfire Entertainment, will see wide release this fall.

Pic, based on the bestselling videogame from Sega, is the story of a group of college students who go to a rave on a mysterious island and find themselves stalked by killer zombies and terrifying creatures intent on feasting on the flesh of the living.

Pic, penned by Dave Parker and Mark Altman and directed by Uwe Boll (“Sanctimony”), stars Jonathan Cherry, Tyron Leitso, Clint Howard, Ona Grauer and Ellie Cornell.

“Dark,” to be directed by Boll, is based on a classic horror videogame series from Infogrames (now Atari). Pic chronicles the life of paranormal detective Edward Carnby, who unravels a mystery that brings him face to face with inescapable horrors both disturbing and deadly. Production is skedded to start next month in Vancouver.
