Inside Move: Couture may be on the rise

Former TF1 exec may be back at his old haunt

Will Xavier Couture, former general manager of Gallic private web TF1 and the recently ousted topper of Canal Plus Group, be rehired by the private web?

When Couture was hired by Vivendi Universal topper Jean-Marie Messier to replace Pierre Lescure, amid much brouhaha, Couture’s relationship with TF1 topper Patrick Le Lay was said to be less than amicable.

“It would surprise me if he went back to TF1, since their relationship was not very friendly when Couture left,” one industry insider tells Variety. “But the industry has changed.”

A TF1 spokeswoman denied last week that Couture was back at work at his old haunt, but TF1 VP Etienne Mougeotte said cryptically that the fact that Couture had been wandering the halls of TF1 “simply proves that Xavier has many friends here and that TF1 is an open company.”
