LONDON — Nicole Kidman has won an undisclosed five-figure sum and an apology from Rupert Murdoch’s British tabloid the Sun after it falsely accused her of having an adulterous affair with “Cold Mountain” co-star Jude Law.
Kidman contends the article, published in March, caused her “considerable embarrassment and distress” and led to the breakdown of Law’s marriage to actress and designer Sadie Frost. Law started divorce proceeding soon after the allegations.
At London’s High Court on Tuesday, lawyers representing the Sun admitted the allegations were untrue and apologized “for the distress and embarrassment this article has caused.”
On July 31, Kidman successfully sued the Daily Mail over similar allegations.
Kidman, who was not in court, has pledged to donate her damages to Fara, a charity that works with Romanian orphans.
