Arnold Schwarzenegger’s debating skills will be on display next month.

Plans for debates among the leading recall candidates began taking shape Thursday with announcements of a Sept. 9 event in Los Angeles, sponsored by the New California Media and Greenlining Institute, and a Sept. 17 contest in Sacramento, sponsored by the California Broadcasters Assn.

Organizers of the first event have invited Schwarzenegger, Democratic Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante, independent Arianna Huffington, Green Party candidate Peter Camejo and GOP candidates Bill Simon, Tom McClintock and Peter Ueberroth.

The CBA will invite candidates who have received at least 10% support in a Field poll, Los Angeles Times poll or Public Policy Institute of California poll prior to Sept. 5. If fewer than six candidates have 10% support, the CBA will pick the rest with help from an independent poll by California State U.

Also, Schwarzenegger announced Thursday that former secretary of State George P. Shultz will co-chair an Economic Recovery Council for his gubernatorial campaign along with billionaire investor Warren Buffett, who the thesp tapped Wednesday as a financial adviser.
