Once again WNBC leads the pack in New York Emmy nominations with 38 noms. Peacock flagship also led last year with 33 noms.
Nominations were announced Tuesday by NATAS Gotham chapter prexy Maury Povich and WNYW Fox 5 news anchor John Roland. Eligibility period ran through Aug. 31, 2001, and noms do not include any reporting of Sept. 11’s events.
WNBC nominations ran the gamut in categories including breaking news story, investigative journalism and teen programming. Outlet also swept the generic and special series promotional announcement category.
WPIX-TV and relative newcomer Metro TV picked up 25 noms each. WPIX is guaranteed a win in the single newscast over 35 minutes category with claims on three noms. Metro earned three noms for its “Full Frontal Fashion” programming during Gotham’s Fashion Weeks.
Rounding up the top five tally leaders are News 12 Long Island (24) and MSG Network (16).
Black-tie gala award ceremony will be held April 21 at Chelsea Piers.
