MTV said it has acquired the assets of the College Television Network from CTN Media Group. The deal provides MTV with another entree to about 8.2 million students who view its satellite broadcast feed to TVs in public areas of about 750 U.S. college campuses.
The CTN network also is beamed into student dorm rooms on about 150 campuses. Company will continue to offer music, news, sports and other content geared toward students.
“By acquiring CTN, we now have a terrific means of deepening our connection with a critical part of our audience,” MTV Networks Music Group prexy Judy McGrath said.
CTN prexy Tom Rocco said the deal will give the 8-year-old network the resources it needs to expand its offerings, and become a more viable operation. Un-der the deal, MTV will offer more of its music programming, as well as news and sports from corporate sister CBS.
