L.A. to host Essence nods

Berry, Keys, Jackson among this year's honorees

The 15th annual Essence Awards show will make a historic move this year from the Big Apple to Los Angeles’ Universal Amphitheater. Show, which honors the achievements of African-American entertainers and community leaders, will take place May 31 and air June 6 on Fox.

Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry and Grammy-winning musician Alicia Keys are among the stars to be honored. Janet Jackson will receive the inaugural entertainer of the year nod, for which she was chosen from a nationwide poll of Essence magazine readers.

Comedian Steve Harvey will again host of the ceremony.

Other honorees include India.Arie, James “Jimmy Jam” Harris and Terry Lewis, songwriter-producer-composer Kenny Gamble and media entrepreneur Cathy Hughes.
