ITV renegotiation nixed by league

Pay TV platform may shutter unless cuts are made

LONDON — The U.K. Football League has rejected calls to renegotiate its contract with ITV Digital.

The pay TV platform, co-owned by ITV companies Carlton Communications and Granada, claims it may shutter unless it cuts the £178 million ($254 million) it owes for the three-year rights deal to $71 million.

The league counters that a third of its 72 clubs may fold if the agreement is not honored. League chair Keith Harris said, “In such circumstances, Carlton, Granada and ITV Digital will bear heavy financial and social responsibility.”
