The news service of SABC1, one of the three channels of the South African Broadcasting Corp., has won a Media Tenor Intl. award for media diversity.

The pubcaster, which broadcasts mainly in English, Xhosa and Zulu, beat 19 contenders for the award, presented in Bonn. It is the most watched channel in South Africa, capturing around 50% of viewers.

SABC1 executive news producer Masakhane Ngcangata said the bulletin had been chosen because it excelled in rural and urban news coverage.
