Olympics outrun competish

For the fifth straight sweeps, “Entertainment Tonight Weekend” has nabbed the top spot among weekly syndicated hours.

The big winner, though, was February’s Olympic Games, which muscled “ET Weekend” and other shows, including leading actioner “Andromeda,” off their marks from this time last year.

No match for competing Games coverage on NBC and cabler MSNBC, “ET Weekend” scored a 3.8 household rating, slipping 21% from February 2001. “Andromeda” (3.0) dropped 19%.

After that came “Stargate SG-1” (2.8, down 7%) and “The X-Files” (2.8, down 26%). Leading rookie weekly was “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” (2.6).

Daytime strips actually got a boost because of the Olympics.

MSNBC Games down

During this second week of the Games, MSNBC’s Olympic numbers between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. dropped 33% from the prior ratings week. That, plus the fact that more viewers were at home to watch TV during Monday’s Presidents Day holiday Feb. 18 helped propel the gains made by five gavelers.

“Judge Judy” (5.8, up 4%), “Judge Joe Brown” (3.5, up 6%), “Divorce Court” (3.1, up 11%), “Judge Greg Mathis” (2.5, up 4%) and “Texas Justice” (2.1, up 11%) all improved from the previous period.

Also, three of the four magazine strips picked up the pace, with “ET” (6.1, up 7%) in the lead, followed by “Inside Edition” (3.4, up 3%), “Access Hollywood” (2.8, flat) and “Extra” (2.6, up 8%).
