Fire gutted Malawi’s only TV station overnight Saturday, taking the 2-year-old African broadcaster off the air.

Anthony Livuza, Malawi’s director of information, said the blaze, which appears to have been caused by an electrical fault, destroyed the station’s control center, a studio, program files, records, tapes and monitors.

A technician at the center said it could be months before the station is back on air.
