Lifetime taking ‘Medicine’

Skein was highest-rated original drama on basic cable in 2001

“Strong Medicine” is set to become a third-year resident at Lifetime with the net ordering up another 22 episodes of the drama.

The highest-rated original drama on basic cable in 2001, series is produced by Columbia TriStar Domestic Television. Skein — part of net’s Sunday night block of original programming — has been averaging a 2.5 household rating, up 25% from the previous year. Series has been honored with an American Red Cross award and a 2001 Shine Award for best drama episode.

” ‘Strong Medicine’ resonates with Lifetime viewers week after week because of its intensely emotional stories which tackle realistic medical cases with both sensitivity and raw originality,” said Lifetime senior VP of programming Kelly Goode Abugov. “Audiences have truly embraced its poignant storylines — and we’re confident they will continue to in the seasons to come.”

Set in a Philadelphia women’s health clinic, “Strong Medicine” stars Janine Turner and Rosa Blasi. Whoopi Goldberg, who exec produces the series, conceived the idea when accompanying her expecting daughter through a delivery.
